Expect more rains this week - Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines - The tail-end of a cold front will continue to bring rains in the country this week, the weather bureau said yesterday.

Graciano Yumul, supervising undersecretary of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), said no tropical storm is expected to affect the country this week, but the tail-end of a cold front will bring cloudy skies with light to moderate rains, particularly over Luzon.

“(The cold front) oscillates from Luzon to Mindanao,” he said in a text message.

“The National Capital Region will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rains from Monday to Tuesday. For the Philippines, generally light to moderate rains,” he said. “No tropical cyclone next week based on latest model.”

PAGASA said one more tropical storm is expected to enter the country before the end of the year.

Rains experienced in some parts of the country over the past few days were caused by a cold front aggravated by the La Niña phenomenon, Yumul said.

The weather bureau warned of above normal rainfall this month due to the La Niña.

La Niña refers to the abnormal cooling of sea surface temperatures in the equatorial Pacific and is characterized by excessive rainfall.
