GMA dared to endorse impeach bid vs Noy

- Perseus Echeminada -

MANILA, Philippines - Marcos loyalist lawyer Oliver Lozano challenged yesterday former President and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to endorse the impeachment complaint he filed against President Aquino as a last act of courage to uphold the rule of the law and the supremacy of the Constitution.

In a letter sent to Arroyo, a copy of which was furnished to The STAR, Lozano urged Arroyo to fight with her “boots on, as injustice is abetted by lame response.”

“Offense is the best defense,” and since the former president is already pinned to the wall, her only recourse is to fight back by endorsing the impeachment complaint that has not been endorsed by any member of the House of Representatives as required by law.

“To uphold the supremacy of the Constitution and in the paramount interest of justice coupled with Christian considerations, we respectfully request your endorsement. We honestly believe that your endorsement will show that under all circumstances, you will fight for the sovereign will of the people as embodied and enshrined in the Constitution,” Lozano told Arroyo in his letter.

He said the Philippine Constitution Association and Integrated Bar of the Philippines support the fight for the supremacy of the Constitution and Supreme Court.

“The enlightened and concerned citizenry grieve over the creeping reign of terror akin to the Cory revolutionary government or absolute dictatorship that summarily removed justices of the Supreme Court and duly elected officials,” Lozano said.

“Your unifying and unyielding moral courage to fight to the last for Justice, Freedom, Rule of Law, Majesty of the Constitution and Supremacy of the Supreme Court would be your shining glory and lasting legacy to a grateful nation.”

Lozano had filed an impeachment complaint through registered mail against President Aquino for alleged betrayal of public trust after the President decided to ban military honors for the burial of former President Ferdinand Marcos.

He later filed a supplemental impeachment complaint for alleged culpable violation of the Constitution after Aquino through Justice Secretary Leila de Lima defied the temporary restraining order issued by the Supreme Court regarding the travel ban imposed on Arroyo.
