Pinoy teacher electrocuted in flooded area in Thailand
MANILA, Philippines - A Filipino teacher died on Monday after he was electrocuted while in his residence in one of the most flood-affected areas in Thailand, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said yesterday.
Citing a report from the Philippine Embassy in Bangkok, DFA spokesperson Raul Hernandez said the remains of Arnolfo Fernandez, of Oriental Mindoro, is in Siriraj Hospital and will be repatriated to the Philippines.
“Initial findings showed that Fernandez was electrocuted on Oct. 31 while in his residence in Thonburi, one of the most flood-affected areas in Thailand,” Hernandez said.
The Embassy in now helping the family in the repatriation of the remains of the deceased.
Fernandez is a teacher in Thailand and was an active OWWA member.
Unusually heavy rainfall in Thailand has resulted in the worst flooding in more than five decades, with more than 300 people killed and vast swathes of the country’s 29 provinces, including the capital, Bangkok, inundated. More than 2.1 million people are estimated to be affected.
