Logging, mining drove 'Lolong' out of habitat?

- Evelyn Macairan -

MANILA, Philippines - Logging and mining in the Agusan Marsh may have driven the now famous saltwater crocodile “Lolong” out of his natural habitat, Butuan Bishop Juan de Dios Pueblos said yesterday.

He said logging activities in the area should be stopped.

“That would be the best... We are fortunate that we have a lot of mines and logs in the area but we are not the sole owners,” Pueblos said. He also does not agree with the appeal of the group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) to release the crocodile back into the wild because there have been reports that it is stressed out and has not been feeding.
