GMA gets honors in Dominican Republic

MANILA, Philippines - Former President and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo was conferred honors by the Dominican Republic for fostering strong relations between the Philippines and Latin American countries.

Dominican Republic President Leonel Fernandez bestowed on Arroyo the Order of Merit Duarte, Sanchez and Mella on Wednesday in the Grado de Gran Cruz Placa de Oro, according to the website of the Office of the President of the Caribbean nation.

The award is contained in Decree 278-11, issued by Fernandez after Arroyo gave a speech on ties between Southeast Asia and Hispanic America.
