PNP to fast-track processing of gun permits of prosecutors

- Cecille Suerte Felipe -

MANILA, Philippines - Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Raul Bacalzo said government prosecutors whose lives are under threat could now secure permits to carry firearms outside residence (PTCFOR) more easily.

Bacalzo said the security of government prosecutors is of paramount concern to the police force.

“We will fast-track the processing of the permit to carry firearms outside residence of our prosecutors,” said Bacalzo.

Bacalzo, Justice Secretary Leila de Lima and Jonathan Lledo, president of the prosecutors association, signed a memorandum of agreement yesterday morning at Camp Crame in Quezon City that would fast-track the permit for prosecutors.

“This will help the security of our prosecutors and the same will promote responsible gun ownership,” said Bacalzo.

He had also encouraged car dealers and traders to properly organize themselves and provide the PNP a list of their members who could avail of the PTCFOR.

Car traders expressed concern for their safety after the gruesome murder of Emerson Lozano, Venson Evangelista and Lozano’s driver Ernane Sensil.

The victims reportedly went with car buyers for test drives when they were snatched in Quezon City last month. Their burned bodies were found in different provinces in Central Luzon.

“We will approve their PTCFOR provided that they comply with all the requirements, including threat assessments,” he added.

Bacalzo said he has removed certain requirements, including NBI or Directorate for Intelligence clearance (Regional Intelligence Clearance for provincial applicants), neuro-psychiatric test, drug test and gun safety seminar with pictures during the seminar and actual proficiency test (firing test).
