DOLE probes labor attaché in Hong Kong
MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has ordered an investigation into the reported verbal abuse committed by a labor attaché on a Filipino worker in Hong Kong.
Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said she has formed a fact-finding committee to look into the complaint against labor attaché Romulo Salud.
Salud supposedly displayed rudeness to Agnes Tenorio when she sought assistance from him about her problem with her employer.
Tenorio initially wanted to leave her employer and return home, but eventually changed her mind, irritating Salud.
Baldoz said the committee is expected to submit a report three days after it ends its investigation.
“Labor attaché Salud will be required to submit himself to the investigation to explain his side. That is part of due process,” she said.
Baldoz said DOLE would seriously look into complaints against any labor official or employee.
“We will act on complaints with dispatch and ensure that DOLE officials and personnel abide by ethical standards for excellence in public service,” she said.
