Weather to improve today - Pagasa

- Evelyn Macairan -

MANILA, Philippines – The weather is expected to improve today as the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) announced yesterday that tropical storm “Katring” has left the country.

Weather forecaster Connie Dadivas said Katring (international codename Chaba) was moving out the Philippine area of responsibility last night.

“The weather would improve today, but there would still be scattered rain showers, especially in the afternoon and evening, in Metro Manila,” said Dadivas.

She added that those traveling to Visayas and Mindanao for the observance of All Saints’ Day on Nov. 1 and All Souls’ Day on Nov. 2 would experience good weather today.

“But we do not advise sea travel to Batanes Island because we have been monitoring high waves measuring 4.5 meters in the area. We have been issuing gale warnings for the last three days,” she said.

In its 5 p.m. weather forecast, Pagasa traced the eye of Katring at 840 kilometers northeast of extreme Northern Luzon with maximum sustained winds of 150 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 185 kph.

The typhoon continued to increase its speed from 11 kph on Tuesday to 13 kph last Wednesday and yesterday.

It was moving at 15 kph in the northeast direction and is expected today to head for Japan.

The weather bureau said Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao would experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.

The rest of the country would be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms.
