US deports 392,862 aliens this year
WASHINGTON – US Immigration and Customs Enforcement deported 392,862 aliens including 841 Filipinos in fiscal year 2010, a slight increase over that of last year, an ICE spokesman said.
He said of the total number of aliens deported in FY 2010 which ended on Sept. 30, about half had criminal records, including 343 Filipinos.
The Obama administration said its new focus on immigrants with criminal records is paying off with 195,772 of those deported in 2010 being convicted criminals.
Among those, more than 1,000 were convicted murderers and 6,000 had been convicted of sex offenses.
In 2009 when 389,834 immigrants were deported, only about one-third of them had criminal records.
