Judges to get security training

- Edu Punay -

MANILA, Philippines - Trial court judges will undergo personal security training after the slaying of a judge in Vigan City last Monday, the Supreme Court (SC) said yesterday.

The Court said the program would instruct judges on basic security measures. Retired SC justice Adolfo Azcuna, chair of Philippine Judicial Academy (PJA), and deputy court administrator Jesus Edwin Villasor will facilitate the training along with National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Magtanggol Gatdula and Senior Police Officer Lars Lindorff of Berlin Police Department.

Twenty-six judges from first-level and second-level trial courts from the National Capital Region would initially undergo the program that would be held from Oct. 11 to 13 at the Imperial Palace Suites in Timog Ave. in Quezon City.

The seminar is a joint project of the SC committee on security, the PJA and the Office of the Court Administrator, in coordination with the NBI.

Early morning last Monday, Vigan Regional Trial Court Branch 20 Judge Reynaldo Lacasandile was shot by motorcycle-riding men when he was on his way to work.

Lacasandile, 48, was rushed to a hospital but died while being treated.
