MANILA, Philippines - Public school teachers decried yesterday the continued failure of the National Statistics Office (NSO) to pay teachers who served as census takers last June.
Benjo Basas, Teachers’ Dignity Coalition national (TDC) national chairman, said the 75,000 public school teachers and Department of Education (DepEd) personnel who served as census enumerators, team supervisors, or census area supervisors have yet to get their pay for jobs done last month.
The agreed pay was P11,550 for census enumerators; P13,050 for team supervisors; and census area supervisors P15,175, he added.
Basas said the TDC, a federation of public school teachers associations nationwide, has sought a dialogue with the NSO regarding the non-payment of teachers.
“The problem is they have postponed meeting us in a dialogue,” he said.
“There is another one set today (Wednesday, July 14).”
Of the 75,000 teachers and DepEd personnel tapped by the NSO to conduct the census, it was learned that 60,000 served as census takers who went from house-to-house and assisted households in accomplishing the questionnaires; 12,000 team supervisors; and 3,000 census area supervisors.
