Ochoa files for early retirement
MANILA, Philippines - Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) vice chief of staff Lt. Gen. Nestor Ochoa has filed for early retirement and is resigned from his post effective Friday.
AFP spokesman Brig. Gen. Jose Mabanta confirmed Ochoa’s early retirement but declined to give the reason. He said Ochoa filed for early retirement last week.
Aside from Ochoa, former AFP chief Gen. Delfin Bangit and the head of the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (ISAFP) Maj. Gen. Romeo Prestoza, have retired early.
Ochoa’s mandatory retirement is on Dec. 8 this year.
He was honored with the traditional testimonial military parade yesterday afternoon at the Army’s parade grounds at Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.
Mabanta denied speculations that Ochoa was forced to retire early so incumbent Army chief Lt. Gen. Reynaldo Mapagu can occupy his post.
Mapagu would soon be replaced as Army chief by Maj. Gen. Arturo Ortiz, commander of the Special Operations Command.
