MANILA, Philippines - The investigation by a Commission on Elections (Comelec) panel on the controversial ballot secrecy folder procurement project has been extended anew to June 18, citing the need to evaluate more documents.
In an interview, Comelec’s Law Department director Ferdinand Rafanan said the panel could not complete its probe as they have not received some of the documents that they asked for from the Bids and Awards Committee (BAC).
“We have to complete the picture, so it will be clear and not sketchy, and not leave many questions unanswered. Somehow, we are forming some conclusions,” Rafanan said.
Prior to the May 10 polls, BAC was to order some P689.7-million worth of ballot secrecy folders from OTC Paper Supply.
The contract, however, was cancelled by the Comelec after it realized that the folders were very expensive at P380 each.
Rafanan has refused to reveal the personalities covered by their investigation to prevent it from being preempted.
Last April, a three-man panel was created to look into the controversial project.
