Verzosa to file courtesy resignation despite Noynoy's assurance

- Bebot Sison Jr., Cecille Suerte Felipe -

MANILA, Philippines - Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Jesus Verzosa said yesterday he would still file his courtesy resignation to president-apparent Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III despite the latter’s reported pronouncement that he would not be changed.

“Seriously, I have decided to file my resignation and it depends on the new president if he will accept it or not,” Verzosa said during a press briefing on the PNP’s accomplishments against kidnap for ransom syndicates.

He reiterated his plan to submit his courtesy resignation after Aquino takes his oath of office on June 30.

Verzosa is one of the members of the Cabinet of President Arroyo who announced his plans to resign to give Aquino a free hand to choose his replacement.

Along with his resignation, Verzosa will submit to Aquino the roadmap for PNP transformation 2016 that would lead the national police toward a highly capable, effective and credible police service by 2030.

Verzosa said the PNP transformation 2016 roadmap contains 15 strategic initiatives on the objectives of the PNP-Integrated Transformation Program-Performance Governance System (ITG-PGS).

“The roadmap reflects the desire of the incoming administration to institutionalize reform in the country,” he said.

“The PNP transformation 2016 is a portion of our journey to a transformed PNP by 2030,” Verzosa said.
