Binay slams Roxas for 'copycat' ads
MANILA, Philippines - The camp of Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino-United Opposition vice presidential bet Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay yesterday slammed rival Liberal Party (LP) vice presidential candidate Sen. Manuel “Mar” Roxas II for coming out with “copycat” ads claiming victory in the polls.
According to Binay’s spokesman Lito Anzures, Roxas made no effort to come out with original ads but instead copied the advertisements earlier released by Binay.
“We don’t really mind if they copied the ad, but they should have been more truthful in presenting the provincial results,” Anzures said.
Anzures pointed out the ads, which appeared in several newspapers Friday, copied the format of the Binay ad that had showed the Makati mayor winning in 14 out of 17 regions.
Anzures noted the ads included the votes for Roxas from the cities that only resulted in bloating the figures.
“I thought the Roxas camp had said we should all wait for the results of the canvass. But here they are again, misleading the public,” Anzures said.
He said the Roxas camp failed to say that the votes came from their bailiwick to justify their earlier claims of swing votes that would overcome the lead of Binay. –With Aurea Calica
