First twin generals in PNP retire today

- Bebot Sison Jr., Cecille Suerte Felipe -

MANILA, Philippines - The first and so far the only pair of twin generals in the Philippine National Police (PNP) retired from the police service yesterday, triggering a revamp of the police organization.

Director Ronald Roderos of PNP Directorate for Police Community Relations and Director Ray Roderos of the Eastern Visayas Directorate for Integrated Police Operations retired yesterday upon the reaching the mandatory retirement age of 56.

PNP chief Director General Jesus Verzosa attended the joint retirement rites yesterday held in front of the PNP national headquarters in Camp Crame in Quezon City.

In his speech, Ray Roderos thanked everyone in the PNP who served as his inspiration when he was assigned to different positions.

“Although the PNP has accomplished so much, there are a lot of things to be done, every member of the PNP must do their part,” he said.

Ronaldo Roderos, on the other hand, said the PNP will always be their home since they served it for almost 39 years.

The retirement of the Roderoses will affect at least 17 police generals in the first wave of reshuffle this year.

Last March 1, Deputy Director General Geary Barias, PNP deputy director for administration (DCA), retired and was replaced by Deputy Director General Jefferson Soriano, the deputy chief for operations (DCO). He is a classmate of Verzosa in Philippine Military Academy Class 76.

The DCO post will be given to Director Edgardo Acuña, who is currently the chief directorial staff, which will be occupied by Director Perfecto Palad.

The source said Palad’s current position as Southern Luzon Directorate for Integrated Police Operations (SL-DIPO) will be given to Director Eric Javier of PMA Class 77, who is presently the Northern Luzon DIPO chief.

That post will in turn be given to Director Raul Castañeda (PMA Class 78), who is the chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), which will be occupied by his deputy Chief Superintendent Don Montenegro (PMA Class 81).

Chief Superintendent Teodorico Capuyan of PNP Directorate for Plans will retire on March 25, but will go on leave starting March 5. He will be replaced by Crime Laboratory director Chief Superintendent Arturo Cacdac, whose position will be given to his deputy, Senior Superintendent Frank Manalo.

Barias, the twin Roderos, and Capuyan are the last remaining members of PMA Class 75 in the PNP.

Ronald Roderos will be replaced by Chief Superintendent Renato Heredia while Ray Roderos’ position will be occupied by Chief Superintendent George Piano, who is presently the head of the PNP Legal Support Service.
