MANILA, Philippines - The iconic People Power monument along EDSA will be lit up by world-class LED (light emitting diode) technology in time for the 24th anniversary of the EDSA 1 uprising on Feb. 24.
Philips Electronics and Lighting, Inc. will provide the People Power monument with the patented Philips color-changing LED lighting system that is also displayed in other landmarks and monuments 12around the world.
Rico Gonzales, chief executive officer of Philips Electronics and Lighting, said the lighting will highlight the beauty of Filipino artist Eduardo Castrillo’s towering sculpture.
“Philips recognizes that our own People Power Monument is one of the most significant landmarks in the country today, considering the huge influence the first EDSA revolution has had for the whole world,” Gonzales said.
Among the other monuments and landmarks that are enhanced by the Philips’ LED technology lighting are New Zealand’s Sky Tower, England’s Buckingham Palace, the Singapore Flyer, China’s Science and Technology Building, and the Cairo Tower in Egypt.
Mohan Narasimhan, Philips professional sales manager, said the LED lighting technology is energy efficient and uses on average 80 percent less energy than a similar scheme using conventional lighting technology, thus resulting in significant cost and energy savings.
