Airline passengers advised to proceed with planned trips

MANILA, Philippines - The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) has advised airline passengers to proceed with their planned trips notwithstanding the recent failed terrorist attempt on Northwest Airlines flight 253 from Nigeria.

“It is a season to celebrate and that is exactly what we want our airline passengers to do. Move on with your planned vacations - domestic and international - and we will handle your security and safety,” MIAA general manager Alfonso Cusi said.

Cusi also assured the riding public that the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) terminals’ security measures remain strictly in place.

Vigilance at the initial and final x-rays is likewise observed to thwart any attempt to bring in hazardous materials or explosive devices, and a 100 percent body frisking will be implemented on all flights.

“I have also called all security officials to ensure that any attempt to disturb flight operations through acts of unlawful interference is avoided,” Cusi said.

He explained that police visibility at the baggage buildup area is also in place with K-9 units beefing up security.

“We have actually prepared for the holidays. No leave-no absence policy has been implemented at the onset of the Christmas season, with our men on standby for any eventuality. Please bear with us that the security check will be tight,” Cusi added.
