GMA OKs promotion of 2 generals
MANILA, Philippines - President Arroyo has approved the promotion of two generals in the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the designation of senior officers to key positions in the military, Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro announced yesterday.
Teodoro said Mrs. Arroyo has approved the ad interim appointment of Maj. Gen. Hernanie Perez, chief of the military’s Western Command in Palawan, to the rank of lieutenant general.
Brig. Gen Jorge Segovia, chief of the Army’s 2nd Infantry Division, was also promoted to two-star rank and designated as commander of the Army’s 2nd Division.
The President earlier approved the promotion of Southern Luzon Command chief Maj. Gen. Roland Detabali to lieutenant general.
Mrs. Arroyo has also approved the designation of 15 other senior officers to various posts in the AFP.
Commodore Efren Tedor was designated as chief of the AFP Command Center, Brig. Gen. Florante Martinez as chief of Army’s Headquarters and Headquarters Support Group, Brig. Gen. William Campos as assistant chief of the Army’s 2nd ID.
Their appointments took effect on Aug. 18, 2009.
Brig. Gen Gominto Pirino was designated deputy chief of the Western Mindanao Command, effective Oct. 13, 2009.
Brig. Gen. Bonifacio de Castro is the new assistant commandant/dean of academics of the AFP Command and General Staff College while Col. Carlos Quita is the new Commander of the Army’s 203rd Infantry Brigade.
