Gadian goes to Senate, seeks Biazon's help for security

MANILA, Philippines – Embattled Lt. Senior Grade Nancy Gadian sought security from Sen. Rodolfo Biazon yesterday citing threats to her life after exposing alleged irregularities in the disbursement of military funds during the 2007 Balikatan exercises.

Gadian sought assistance from Biazon a day after the Court of Appeals (CA) granted the petition of amparo filed by her sister seeking for her protection.

The CA ordered Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro to take custody of Gadian and secure her appearance for further investigation of the allegations she had made.

Biazon, for his part, did not immediately act on Gadian’s request for custody noting the CA order.

Biazon said Gadian is being protected by nuns under the Association of Major Religious Superiors of the Philippines (AMRSP), the same group that provided security for national broadband network scandal whistle-blower Jun Lozada.

Biazon said he would be asking the nuns to file a motion for reconsideration of the CA decision to amend the order on Teodoro.

“Second, (the nuns) can talk to Secretary Teodoro and come up with an agreement because the primary responsible individual here is Secretary Teodoro,” Biazon said.

Biazon, who served as Armed Forces chief, welcomed the Navy officer in his office at the Senate yesterday where she related her security concerns.

Biazon though assured Gadian that Teodoro can provide security for her.

Biazon noted Gadian remains a member of the military.
