First Gentleman won't attend World Bank briefing

-

MANILA, Philippines - First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo isn’t attending the briefing that the World Bank (WB) is expected to give government officials and senators.

In an interview with GMA News yesterday, the First Gentleman also said he was hopeful that the briefing would clear him of accusations that he was involved in the rigging of bids for a WB-funded road project in the Philippines.

He said he was “happy” that the truth may finally come out, adding he was in favor of having the entire WB report furnished to the Senate so that lawmakers can get the full picture and find out the truth about the alleged rigging of bids.

Mr. Arroyo’s doctor Antonio Sibulo had earlier told the Senate that “the conduct of the hearing may be detrimental to his cardiovascular condition.”

He was represented at the Senate hearing by Sibulo and his lawyer Ruy Rondain.
