Biscuit maker reiterates safety of products

MANILA, Philippines – The manufacturer of Sunflower biscuits reiterated yesterday that all Sunflower variants are free from melamine.

At the same time, the company also stressed that its “principal concern in selling the product is the well-being and health of the public.”

In a statement, officials of Croley Food Manufacturing Corp. thanked the Department of Health (DOH) and the Bureau of Food and Drugs (BFAD) for “speeding up the tests (on its products) and immediately announcing the results to the public in the shortest possible time.”

“The resumption of the operation of the company is greatly welcomed by hundreds of their workers and employees and their families, whose economic interest was adversely affected,” the statement read.

Croley noted that Sunflower products are “widely accepted abroad” and could generate “timely export earnings for the country especially during current economic difficulties.”

Last Monday, DOH Secretary Francisco Duque III banned Sunflower Crackers Blueberry Cream Sandwich after it was found contaminated with melamine by Hong Kong’s Center for Food Safety.

Two days later, Duque lifted the ban after the results of the BFAD’s laboratory analysis on Blueberry Cream Sandwich and 15 other variants showed that they were negative for melamine.
