MANILA, Philippines – Another ranking police official who was part of the Philippine National Police (PNP) delegation to the 77th Interpol General Assembly in Russia would retire from the service on Wednesday.
The retirement of Director Jaime Caringal on Nov. 5 would trigger another minor reshuffle in the police force.
The impending reshuffle would be the second since PNP chief Director General Jesus Verzosa assumed office last Sept. 27.
Caringal, a member of Philippine Military Academy Class ’76, is regional director for Western Mindanao and was one of the eight police generals who attended the Interpol conference in St. Petersburg, Russia from Oct. 6 to 11.
The group was about to leave Moscow when airport authorities questioned Caringal’s mistah, retired police comptroller Director Eliseo de la Paz and his wife for possessing excess cash amounting to 105,000 euros or P6.9 million.
De la Paz and Caringal were both classmates of Verzosa.
In an earlier interview, Director Edgar Acuña of the Directorate for Personnel and Records Management (DPRM) confirmed the reshuffle, which he described as part of the regular movement in the police force.
Acuña said the revamp was meant to fill up positions vacated by the retirement of officers who reached the retirement age of 56.
Reports had it that Chief Superintendent Angelo Sunglao, chief of the PNP Maritime Group, will replace Caringal.
Sunglao’s possible replacement could either be his deputy, Senior Superintendent Freddie Panen, or Senior Superintendent Villamor Bumanlaog, deputy director of Cordillera.
After the Nov. 5 revamp, another major reshuffle involving members of the PNP directorial staff will be implemented by the end of the year due to the impending retirement of PNP Deputy Director General Emmanuel Carta.
