FX taxis not included in P10 tip for metered cabs LTFRB
MANILA, Philippines – The compulsory P10 “tip” for metered cabs does not apply to FX taxis, the common term for passenger Asian utility vehicles that have become popular among commuters, particularly office workers.
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) issued the clarification following a decision allowing taxis to charge P10 more because of high fuel costs. FX or Tamaraw FX is the brand name of a popular Toyota passenger van.
“We will come out with rates for FX but as of the moment, only metered taxis are allowed to collect the additional P10,” LTFRB chairman Thompson Lantion told The STAR.
Lantion said LTFRB is still in the process of deliberating the rates for FX taxis. He said FX taxis should be treated differently because unlike metered cabs, they operate from point-to-point and charge fixed rates depending on the routes. FX fare is P2 per kilometer.
He stressed only metered taxis with the required LTFRB stickers would be allowed to charge P10 more. The approved fare increases take effect today. In the case of jeepneys, only those with fare matrixes would be allowed to collect the adjusted rates. – Perseus Echeminada
