6 generals, 68 junior officers promoted

MANILA, Philippines – President Arroyo approved yesterday the promotion of six military generals and 68 junior officers in various branches of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro said the President, in a resolution dated June 21, signed the ad interim appointment of three brigadier generals from the Philippine Air Force (PAF) and three commodores from the Philippine Navy (PN) to the next higher rank on recommendation of the Department of National Defense (DND) and the AFP Board of Generals.  

Promoted to major general was Brig. Gen. Rolando Capacia, PAF commander of the 1st Air Division. Capacia was the wing commander of the 520th Air Base Wing, wing commander of 570th Composite Tactical Wing (CTW), and deputy wing commander of 570th CTW.

Also given another star was the incumbent commander of PAF 3rd Air Division, Brig. Gen. Hernanie Perez, who served as chief of the AFP Management Fiscal Office, vice commander of Air Education and Training Command, and wing commander of 11th Tactical Operations Wing.

Incumbent commander of 2nd Air Division, PAF Brig. Gen. Nathaniel Legaspi was also promoted to the rank of major general.

Legaspi was deputy commander, Southern Luzon Command, assistant deputy chief of staff for intelligence (J2), assistant deputy for Internal Affairs/chief, Liaison Division (OJ2), and Defense and Armed Forces Attaché to Indonesia.

Appointed as Rear Admiral was Commodore Danilo Cortez, chairman of the AFP Bids and Awards Committee.

Cortez served as commander of Assault Craft Force, deputy commander of Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao, assistant chief of naval staff for comptrollership, N6, Headquarters Philippine Navy, and commander of Naval Task Force 61, Headquarters Ready Force, Philippine Fleet.

Also promoted was Commodore Ramon Punzalan, internal auditor of the AFP. – Jaime Laude
