Largest RP flag to fly on Independence Day
BAGUIO CITY – The largest Philippine flag, perhaps even larger than an entire football field, will fly here on Independence Day, not for a spot in the Guinness Book of Records but to rekindle the waning patriotism among Filipinos.
Residents, evangelical pastors and even political leaders of different political beliefs will gather in a rare show of unity and spread the huge Philippine flag measuring 100 meters in length and 20 meters in width.
“(Focusing on the) symbolic rather than pomp, we dream to create an atmosphere of patriotism and love of country especially among our young people,” explained Pastor Oscar Magallanes of the Good News Community Church.
The pastor admitted, “There is already a diminishing sense of patriotism among us. The opposite of love is not hate, but indifference.” – Artemio Dumlao
