PNP cracks down on traders of police, military uniforms
DAVAO CITY – Authorities have launched a crackdown against traders selling military and police uniforms to the public.
The crackdown came following the complaint of Southern Mindanao regional police director Chief Superintendent Andres Caro II that communist New People’s Army (NPA) guerrillas who separately attacked a military detachment and a police precinct here were mistaken as government troops.
Caro said the rebels were wearing camouflage uniforms complete with insignias that would make any civilian believe they were legitimate members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Philippine National Police (PNP) Special Action troop.
“The military and police uniforms the rebels used were complete with insignia and all other accessories. These have become effective tools in deceiving not only government troops but the public as well,” he said. – Edith Regalado
