Golf tournament raises funds for scholarships

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – The Louie Coson Friendship Cup golf tournament held at Tagaytay Midlands Golf course in honor of the late Louie Coson was organized by his golfing friends led by Manuel Chan and Hans Sy to raise funds to finance the four-year schooling of three children of two golf caddies and an umbrella girl of the Manila Golf Club.

The scholarship grant will be managed by the SM Foundation which is also tasked to monitor the performance of the scholars and attend to their needs. For the past years, friends of  Coson would hold golf tournaments, the proceeds of which would go to caddies’ funds. This year, they decided to establish the Louie Scholarship Fund to finance the schooling of the children of caddies.

Aside from the basic tuition fees of the scholars who will be entering college this school year taking up courses in Accountancy, Computer Engineering and IT, the fund will shoulder the monthly allowance of the scholars plus all incidental expenses that will be incurred in the course of their four-year college education.

The group plans to hold more activities to raise funds to benefit more scholars.
