2006 mutineers to return to Army stockade in Tanay

MANILA, Philippines – Detained Maj. Gen. Renato Miranda and 26 Marine and Scout Ranger officers accused of taking part in the failed 2006 power grab will be returned to the Army stockade in Camp Capinpin in Tanay, Rizal today, according to the wife of a detainee.

“The AFP plans to bring the ISAFP detainees back to Tanay on Wednesday by force,” Ma. Flor Querubin, wife of detained Marine Col. Ariel Querubin said.

The military officers are now detained at the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (ISAFP) in Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City.

However, AFP spokesman Lt. Col. Bartolome Bacarro said that he had no knowledge about the reported transfer of Miranda and the other detainees.

“If there is really a plan to move the ISAFP detainees back to the AFP detention facility in Tanay it is already a call of the custodial authority,” he said.

“The Tanay cells are worse than those in ISAFP,” said Mrs. Querubin. “No windows, just a toilet, a bed and then bars. No space for even a table.”– Jaime Laude
