Pagasa issues flashflood, landslide alert in Luzon

- Ghio Ong, Helen Flores -

Government weather forecasters yesterday reiterated their warning against flashfloods and landslides as the whole of Luzon will be experiencing unseasonal monsoon rains.

“The whole of Luzon will experience monsoon rains becoming widespread rains which may trigger flashfloods and landslides,” the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

Pagasa said the rest of the country will have cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms.

In a phone interview, weather forecaster Ludy Alviar also said the low pressure area, which brought rains over some parts of the country in the past days, has moved away from Philippine territory.

Alviar said that aside from the northeast monsoon, no other weather disturbances are likely to affect the country in the coming days.

An LPA is commonly associated with bad weather. A tropical cyclone, if on the sea, can be formed in such condition.

Pagasa said moderate to strong northeasterly winds will prevail over northern and eastern Luzon and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate blowing from the east and southeast with slight to moderate seas.
