Ousted Taiwanese investor can reclaim Subic golf

- Perseus Echeminada -

The Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) expressed willingness yesterday to allow an ousted Taiwanese investor to reassume the management of the Subic Bay Golf and Country Club (SBGCC) provided that all unpaid rental fees to the government are settled.

SBMA administrator Armand Arreza said during the advance taping of the Kapihan ng Bayan at Sulo hotel in Quezon City that they are willing to sit down with the Hu family, operators of the Binictican Golf Course in the Subic Bay Free Port zone prior to the June 8 takeover.

“They can submit a new proposal and we will treat it as new investment,” Arreza said. However, Arreza stressed that the Taiwanese must seek a new partner so that they will be allowed to come in as new investors.

The SMBA administrator also denied that the takeover of the facility was meant to pave the way for a Korean investor interested in running the facility.

“The golf course is being run by members of the club and the SBMA,” he said.

He declined, however, to comment on the merits of the case because of a pending case in Olongapo City regarding the takeover.
