Budget Secretary Rolando Andaya Jr. said Monday the government will continue to pour needed resources, amounting to P125 million this year, into funding for its housing project implemented in partnership with the Gawad Kalinga Community Development Foundation (GK).
Andaya the P1.126-trillion national budget for 2007 provides funds for at least 5,000 housing units at P50,000 per unit.
This housing project is implemented under the Core Shelter Assistance Project for the Gawad Kalinga Luzon Housing Project of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), in partnership with GK.
The P125 million is the 50 percent equivalent of the entire project cost. The other half will be shouldered by the Gawad Kalinga.
Gawad Kalinga is the flagship housing and development project of Couples for Christ (CFC), a non-government organization.
This project aims to provide poor and underprivileged Filipinos with shelter, education, livelihood, health and values formation – or transformation. – Paolo Romero
