Asistio’s son nabbed for kidnap try

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga – Police arrested a son of Caloocan City Rep. Luis "Baby" Asistio and four others after they allegedly tried to kidnap a technician in Angeles City on Sunday.

Chief Superintendent Ismael Rafanan, Central Luzon police director, said Luis Asistio was taken into custody along with Levy Carbonell of Quezon City, Jayson Untalan of Caloocan City, Raymond La Madrid of Angeles City, and Dennis Dacer of Caloocan City.

Asistio and the other suspects were detained at the Angeles City jail after criminal charges were filed against them before the Angeles City prosecutor’s office yesterday morning, he added.

In his report to Rafanan, Senior Superintendent Sonny Cunanan, Angeles City police director, said the suspects were allegedly under the influence of drugs when they tried to kidnap a certain Jerry Sampo in front of Jenra Mall along Sto. Rosario street in Angeles City at around 6:30 p.m.

Sampo is working as a technician at one of several cellular phone shops at Jenra Mall, the report added.

Cunanan said a 9 mm pistol Glock and a 357 revolver Taurus were seized from the suspects when they were arrested.

"Sampo was a former member of their gang and they tried to force him into their vehicle but a lot of people saw them and these people called the police," he said.

Cunanan said the suspects tested positive for illegal drugs.

Police found out that Asistio is facing a number of criminal charges in Caloocan City, he added. – Ric Sapnu
