DOLE sets up emergency employment program in Bicol

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is putting in place an emergency employment program to ensure immediate job placement for Bicol residents.

Labor Undersecretary for Employment Danilo Cruz said the DOLE is coming out with a program that would provide local and overseas employment for Bicolanos severely affected by typhoon "Reming."

"We are now planning the implementation of an emergency employment program that would enable Bicol residents to quickly recover from the devastation of typhoon Reming," he said.

Cruz said the rehabilitation in Bicol is expected to generate local employment for residents in the region.

The DOLE would also organize job fairs that could generate local and overseas employment for residents of Bicol, particularly those from typhoon-ravaged areas.

The DOLE is yet to determine the number of workers displaced when Reming hit the country last month.— Mayen Jaymalin
