Entitled "Magsaysay: The Peoples President," the book is authored by Manuel F. Martinez and edited by veteran newspaper columnist Nelson Navarro.
The book will be launched today at the Ramon Magsaysay Center RM Hall, with a photo and memorabilia exhibit of the late President, to kickstart this months activities of the Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation.
Sen. Ramon Magsaysay Jr. and sister Mila Magsaysay-Valenzuela will grace its launching.
Martinez, the books author, is a journalist and prize-winning author of 10 published books. Martinez served as undersecretary for political affairs during President Corazon Aquinos administration, senior consultant of the House of Representatives from 1988 to 1992, and elected delegate to the 1971 Constitutional Convention representing Romblon. He also worked as writer for the late Sen. Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino.
"This is a product of our shared aspiration to publish a book on our father that would provide a highly accessible and readable overview of his life and political career, one that would hopefully impact greatly on the youth," Valenzuela said.
"Although many young people recognize the name Ramon Magsaysay, we feel that many of them would like to know more about the man, about his role as Philippine president and his legacy of selfless leadership. We strongly believe that his story has much to hold the interest and inspire young minds who are searching for role models of leadership, and that his example is even more relevant today," Senator Magsaysay added.
This year marks the 98th birth anniversary of President Magsaysay.
