Arroyo calls for ‘EC’ way of life — energy conservation

CLARK FIELD, Pampanga — President Arroyo called on Filipinos yesterday to adopt the "EC way of life," with "EC" standing for "energy conservation."

Speaking at the United Parcels Service (UPS), where she was guest of honor, Mrs. Arroyo said government employees must cut expenditures and make sure that "every single budget is connected" to her 10-point agenda and medium-term public investment program.

Mrs. Arroyo said she has ordered her economic managers to work out incentives for employers supporting the " EC way of life" program.

Vice President Noli de Castro will oversee reforms in the power and water sectors to make them more competitive, including the privatization of the National Power Corp.. she added

Energy Secretary Raphael Lotilla said "EC" stands for energy conservation, a measure needed to focus on the public and private sector.

This could be achieved through energy-saving measures like minimizing elevator use in buildings when the destination is only a floor away, he added. — Ding Cervantes
