Villar’s wife still richest House member

A Villar is still the richest member of the House of Representatives.

Las Piñas Rep. Cynthia Villar, wife of Sen. Manuel Villar Jr., is listed as the most wealthy House member, with a worth of P531.2 million and no liabilities.

Senator Villar consistently held the richest House member slot when he was a representative.

The second richest is Ignacio "Iggy" Arroyo of Negros Occidental, a brother of First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo. He has assets worth P307.1 million, with liabilities of P15.5 million for a net worth of P291.6 million.

Another congressman surnamed Arroyo, presidential son Mikey, who represents the second district of Pampanga, is worth P74.4 million with no liabilities.

In third slot in the multimillionaire list is Judy Syjuco of Iloilo, who valued her assets at P270.1 million and her liabilities at P18.9 million, for a net worth of P251.2 million.

She is followed by Ferjenel Biron of Iloilo, a medical doctor who declared his assets at P276.8 million and his liabilities at P45.4 million, for a net worth of P231.4 million.

In fifth slot is Aurora Rep. Juan Edgardo Angara, a son of Sen. Edgardo Angara, who valued his assets at P112.8 million and his liabilities at P530,000, for a net worth of P112.3 million.

At the bottom of the list are party-list representatives. The poorest of them is Rafael Mariano of Anak Pawis, who has assets totaling P15,000 and liabilities of P7,000, for a net worth of P8,000, which is just a fourth of his basic monthly salary of P35,000.

Joel Virador of Bayan Muna is worth P32,500, while labor leader Crispin Beltran, also of Anak Pawis, declared his assets at P70,000, his basic pay for two months. Beltran has no liabilities.

Another Bayan Muna representative, Satur Ocampo, is worth P615,220 with no liabilities.

The richest House leader is Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr., who valued his assets at P55.6 million and liabilities at P1.9 million, for a net worth of P53.7 million.

Majority Leader Prospero Nograles declared his assets at P43.3 million and liabilities at P11 million, for a net worth of P32.3 million.

His minority counterpart, Francis Escudero, is worth P4.5 million. He has assets of P11.6 million and liabilities of P7.1 million.

Imee Marcos of Ilocos Norte, daughter of the late President Ferdinand Marcos, has assets of P15 million and liabilities of P4.2 million, for a net worth of P10.8 million.

Tarlac’s Benigno Aquino III, son of former President Corazon Aquino, is worth P12.6 million.

The other House member occupying the sixth to 20th slots in terms of wealth are Rafael Nantes of Quezon, who is worth P109.2 million; Mary Ann Susano of Quezon City, P98.5 million; Juan Ponce Enrile Jr. of Cagayan, P93.7 million; Antonio Floirendo Jr. of Davao del Norte, P93.7 million; Ronaldo Puno of Antipolo City, P86.3 million;

Glenda Ecleo of Surigao del Norte, P78.8 million; Francis Nepomuceno of Pampanga, P78.7 million; Amelita Villarosa of Mindoro Occidental, P77.2 million; Rodolfo Plaza of Agusan del Sur, P76.8 million; Gilberto Teodoro of Tarlac, P76.3 million; Rodolfo Valencia of Mindoro Oriental, P75.7 million; Pedro Pancho of Bulacan, P75.6 million; Ronaldo Zamora of San Juan, P75 million; Teodoro Locsin Jr. of Makati City, P74.7 million; and Florencio Vargas of Cagayan, P74.4 million.

Pangasinan’s Mark Cojuangco, son of San Miguel Corp. chairman Eduardo Cojuangco Jr., is worth P50.1 million, while his brother Carlos, who represents the fourth district of Negros Occidental, is worth P5.9 million.

Some 227 of the 236 House members are millionaires. The poorest of them is Rene Magtubo of the party-list group Partido ng Manggagawa, who declared his assets at P1.1 million with no liabilities.
