Firm cancels party, gives to Damayan

Employees of snack food firm Leslie Corp. led the list of donors who recently donated cash and relief goods to The STARs "Operation Damayan," which will distribute them to families affected by the recent typhoons in eastern Luzon.
Leslie Corp. employees donated P94,000 allocated for their Christmas party as well as relief goods, old clothes, and cases of "Clover Chips," "Cheezy" and "Nacho Corn Chips."
"The employees believe that through this joint undertaking with Operation Damayan, they are able to bring cheer to our less fortunate counterparts in badly hit areas. Leslie Corp. management, in turn, recognize the support given by all its employees in conveying the true spirit of Christmas," the firm said in a statement.
Others who gave cash donations include Lolita Macapinlac, who gave $100; residents of Barangay 310 in District 3, Manila, P10,000; Pacific Novelty, P6,000; Rosa Tatel, P5,000; Renato Hilberto, P3,000; Virginia and Ojeda Decena, P2,000; Banko Buena Inc. in Iloilo City, P2,000 and Joanna Vinluan, P500.
Donors who gave donations in kind are Kepco Phils., 180 bags of groceries; Asia Brewery, which pledged to give bottled water; STAR assistant entertainment editor Maridol Bismark, a computer set; and Joey Espinola, books.
Previous donors included Press Undersecretary Robert Mananquil, who donated a full months salary of P28,000 to The STAR fund drive.
