GMA gives Aglipay a free hand in conducting PNP revamp

- Christina Mendez -
Philippine National Police chief Deputy Director General Edgar Aglipay is ready to revamp 17 regional police commands nationwide this week after he gets the nod of the Civil Service Commission (CSC).

"We are just awaiting the approval of the CSC," he said. "President Arroyo and the secretary of the interior and local government have given the go-signal. We hope to implement it within the week."

Aglipay said it is best that any movement of police officials go through the proper processes and channels before he makes any announcement.

"We also need to undergo processes to avoid any misunderstanding," he said.

Aglipay said the President expressed satisfaction with his policy of intensified police visibility to restore the public’s trust and confidence in the PNP.

Aglipay met with Mrs. Arroyo upon her return from China Friday night.

In Quezon City, Aglipay discussed with Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. the impending changes in the Central Police District under acting police chief Senior Superintendent Oscar Mariñas.

Belmonte, with Interior and Local Government Secretary Angelo Reyes and top police officials, gave awards to Quezon City policemen who did meritorious acts in the line of duty.

Aglipay, Reyes and Metro Manila police commander Director Avelino Razon also inspected the 2,800-strong Central Police District at the Amoranto stadium in Quezon City.
