RP sends 10 more policemen to Kosovo

Ten more Filipino police personnel were deployed to Kosovo as peacekeepers yesterday, becoming part of the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK).

Chief Inspector Remegio Gregorio led the 10 police personnel, who flew to Kosovo aboard commercial flight from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Parañaque City at 6:40 p.m.

They will join 80 other Filipino police officers who are serving as civilian police personnel under the multinational UNMIK peacekeeping effort.

Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesman Chief Superintendent Joel Goltiao said the deployment of Filipino law enforcers to the UNMIK peacekeeping force is an international commitment of the Philippine government, which has the full support of the PNP.

PNP contingent in Kosovo commander Superintendent Willy Tolentino will welcome the 10 new Filipino peacekeepers upon their arrival in the Kosovar capital of Pristina.

There are now 30 other Filipino police personnel serving under a similar UN peacekeeping mission in Liberia, while another 16 PNP personnel are in East Timor serving as civilian personnel under the UN mission to the tiny island state, which won independence from Indonesia in 2000. — with Christina Mendez
