GMA cancels Cabinet meeting

Apparently there was something more than met the eye.

President Arroyo canceled her schedule yesterday including a 10 a.m. Cabinet meeting when her supposed "minor" eye irritation she developed since Monday became a major irritant.

Presidential Spokesman Ignacio Bunye assured the public that the cancellation was only due to an eye irritation. "She just needs some rest," he told a press briefing. "She would like to give it time to improve."

Asked how soon the President will remain out of the public eye, the usually articulate Bunye refused to elaborate. "We’ll let you know."

Last Monday, Mrs. Arroyo surprised everyone by wearing brown-tinted eyeglasses to conceal a swollen, red right eye when she graced the launching of the country’s new mobile phone carrier, Sun Cellular.

It was not immediately known what caused the eye irritation. Mrs. Arroyo and her family spent last Sunday at a Palawan beach resort.

Doctors saw nothing serious, Bunye said.
