CBCP: Latest sex flicks abhorrent

- Sandy Araneta -
Two more local sex flicks have been rated by a movie review panel of the Roman Catholic Church as "morally abhorrent" due to their lengthy sex scenes and graphic depiction of rape.

The title of one of the films, "Lollipop," gives a "double meaning and obviously shows that it has no moral value," the Catholic Initiative for Enlightened Movie Appreciation (Cinema) said in a statement. "The film stereotypes women as the weaker sex, dumb and sex objects of men."

Cinema is the movie review arm of the influential Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines.

It said the film – starring sex siren Via Veloso and directed by Cesar Abella – had "poor technical" quality and stereotyped men as "sex maniacs with nothing on their minds but sex."

"The film is also about men sexually abusing weak women, raping them and has only given male viewers ideas on how to sexually abuse underage female children who are mentally ill or retarded," it said.

Like most other local sex films, the panel said, "Lollipop" had lengthy sex scenes which were not necessary to the story and were only meant to entice men to watch the movie.

Another sex film, "Hubad na Multo," also received a "morally disturbing" rating from Cinema, which described it as "technically below average." The film stars Kat de Santos and is directed by Eddj Contreras.

"The sex scenes are too lengthy but are not really useful in the film. The same is true for the wet scenes, which are immaterial to the film itself. These scenes are being used only to show the body of women sexually, and have only degraded the women themselves," Cinema said.

"The director is too obvious in his intention of the film since even the ghost in the movie is being shown undressing herself in the film," the panel added.
