Roño’s remains flown to Samar

-
Acknowledging requests of relatives, friends and political leaders, the remains of former Samar Gov. Jose Roño will be flown to Samar at 9 a.m. today, to lie in state in Calbayog City, a city he served for 14 years.

After an overnight stay, the remains will be returned to Santuario de San Antonio at Forbes Park in Makati City. Interment at Himlayang Pilipino, Quezon City, is scheduled on Saturday, Sept. 7 after necrological services at the Capilla de la Virgenn of Santuario.

Roño served the nation in various capacities: as Calbayog City mayor, governor, congressman, majority leader, deputy prime minister and the first secretary of local government and community development.

A brilliant student leader, he began his political career as a 23-year-old Calbayog City mayor to become an astute presidential adviser and respected political leader in the provincial and national arenas. He passed away last week due to illness at 79.
