Lecture features Great Philippine Collections

Ongoing and in its third year is a series of lectures sponsored by the National Museum, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and the Museum Foundation of the Philippines, Inc. held every second Saturday of the month at the Tambunting-Villonco Hall of the Museum of the Filipino People (former Finance Bldg.) on P. Burgos street, Rizal Park.

The theme of this year’s series is "The Great Philippine Collections." This will cover photographic images, books, paintings, archaeological artifacts as well as the experience and memories of those who accumulated them or of those who are now in charge of them.

The speaker for Jan. 12 will be John Silva, senior consultant at the National Museum. His talk, "Collecting Filipiniana Photographs," will delve into the history of photography in the Philippines and touch on his and partner Jonathan Best’s personal collection of over 2,000 photographs, accumulated from all over this world over a period of more than 20 years.

The lecture proper will commence at 10 a.m. Registration starts at 9 and admission fees include a free tour of the current exhibits of the National Museum. Call Jing or Michelle at 813-0771 for more information.
