The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the appointment of Rodrigo Rivera Sr., chairman of the board and president and chief executive officer of the RD Corp., as honorary consul of Papua New Guinea with residence in Mindanao.
His appointment as honorary consul for Mindanao was made because of his vast knowledge of Papua New Guinea. More importantly, this gesture by the Papua New Guinea government is in recognition of RD Corp.s various investments in the said country particularly the RD Tuna Cannery, RD Fishing PNG, Madang Cold Storage and Ice Plant Facilities and the Vidar Plantation.
The presence of said companies in Papua New Guinea has greatly improved the countrys economy as RD Corp. provides employment opportunities to close to 1,500 New Guinea nationals and financial assistance to the government in the form of business taxes.
As honorary consul, Rivera will promote and enhance the interests of Papua New Guinea in matters relative to trade, investment and tourism in Mindanao, particularly in General Santos City.
