Nereo "Nering" Andolong, former chairman and general manager of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) and also former president of the National Press Club of the Philippines (NPC), died yesterday of a lingering illness. He was 74.
Andolong, who was a towering figure in the Philippine press fraternity, also served as a colonel of the Philippine Constabulary.
Nering was an advocate of community journalism and champion of the cause espoused by provincial journalists.
His remains lie in state at the White Plains chapel. Interment and Mass will be held on Nov. 4, at 8:30 a.m. at the Manila Memorial Chapel in Sucat, Parañaque City.
