Major PNP revamp looms
August 17, 2001 | 12:00am
There will be a major reshuffle this week of provincial and district directors of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Interior and Local Government Secretary Jose Lina Jr. said yesterday.
Lina told reporters the target of the nationwide reshuffle are police and provincial and district directors who have failed to stop jueteng and other forms of gambling in their jurisdiction.
Lina said the revamp will start at the provincial level down to station commanders and would go up to regional directors if jueteng continues to proliferate in the country.
Sources said the reshuffle will affect police officers in the National Capital Region, Southern Tagalog and Central Luzon.
Earlier, Lina warned police commanders that they would be relieved if the interior departments task force and other law enforcement agencies arrest suspected gamblers in their jurisdiction.
Police commanders, who are caught "sleeping on the job," will be administratively charged with dereliction of duty, he added. Perseus Echeminada
