No higher wages despite oil price hike
June 1, 2001 | 12:00am
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) ruled out yesterday any immediate increase in wages despite an increase in oil prices.
Labor Secretary Patricia Sto. Tomas said it is not possible for Regional Tripartite Wage and Productivity Boards (RTWPBs) to grant any increase in daily wages soon.
Sto. Tomas explained that, except for the National Capital Region (NCR), most RTWPBs were only recently constituted and would not likely approve any petition for wage hikes.
"Members of the RTWPBs are just newly appointed and will not have their orientation until the first week of July so I don’t think the board will issue any wage increase immediately," she said. – Mayen Jaymalin
