GMA to be more active in PPC campaign
April 4, 2001 | 12:00am
As the campaign enters the homestretch, President Arroyo will take a more active role in pushing for the election of her 13 senatorial candidates.
The administration People Power Coalition (PPC) announced yesterday that the President would be more involved in the campaign especially since she is aiming for a 13-0 shutout.
The PPC said Mrs. Arroyo is appealing to voters to elect the candidates who can help her pursue reforms and good governance.
The President has so far been selective in attending the coalitions campaign rallies.
PPC candidates welcomed her plan to be more active in the campaign.
"Her active campaigning will be a big boost to our ticket, particularly to those who were still outside the winning circle in the latest survey," said former Speaker Manuel Villar Jr.
He said he was confident the Presidents push for the slate would pull his colleagues up the winning column.
Villar himself has gained ground in the latest poll, jumping a few slots from No. 10-11 in previous surveys. In all surveys, PPC led ousted President Joseph Estradas Puwersa ng Masa 8-5.
In a related development, PPC senatorial candidate Solita "Winnie" Monsod has accepted an invitation for her to debate with Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago, who is seeking re-election under Puwersas banner.
The debate is being arranged by the Rotary Club of Quezon City and would be held on April 18 at the Quezon City Sports Club at 7 p.m.
Santiago, however, has not yet accepted the Rotarians invitation. Jess Diaz
