People Power II, a period of liberation

Archbishop of Manila Jaime Cardinal Sin believes that God was present at the EDSA Shrine in Mandaluyong City when People Power II was launched to oust President Joseph Estrada.
"EDSA II became the moment of liberation for the Filipino people due to the presence of God at the EDSA Shrine," Sin said in a homily during Mass at the shrine to celebrate the feast of the Sto. Niño or the Child Jesus.
Sin likened to the holy towns of Bethlehem and Nazareth the shrines location at the historic stretch of EDSA or Epifanio de los Santos Avenue, corner Ortigas Avenue.
"Just as He was born in Bethlehem and grew up in Nazareth, He was also present here at the EDSA Shrine," Sin said.
Sin said the Sto. Niño involved himself in the history of humanity and that He was also at the EDSA Shrine and became part of the nations history.
"For He has assured us that when two or three are gathered in His name, He is in their midst," Sin said.
Sin said not only two or three people had gathered at EDSA last Friday and Saturday but thousands assembled in the name of God.
"And true enough, we experienced His mighty power and love," Sin said. "His power vanquished evil and darkness."
Sin said Filipinos have become the "people of the great light" after "walking in darkness" during the past administration.
"For I was confident that He will prevail," Sin said.
Sin said he did not doubt that the "Filipino people will drive away former president Estrada," although some people told him that it would be a long and difficult if not impossible process.
"I believe in the power of God," Sin said. "I believe in the power of prayer. I believe that God will never forsake his people. I believe the Blessed Mother will not forget his children."
Sin said he had always believed that God will give the nation a "Jubilee gift" because the Churchs Great Jubilee last year was the prelude to EDSA II, just like in 1986 when the Marian Year paved the way for EDSA I.
"The Great Jubilee is our moment of anticipation and preparation, while EDSA II is our moment of celebration and recommitment," Sin said. Sandy Araneta
